Touchstone Imaging — MRI and Diagnostic Imaging in Colorado

Dr. Leach, MDreviewed by Dr. Ken Allan

When your CCC managing physician orders imaging, the referral goes to the imaging partner that best serves your location and scheduling needs. Touchstone Imaging operates nine Colorado locations across the Front Range, providing MRI, CT, and X-ray services with flexible scheduling and consistent quality.

The imaging network exists to remove friction from the diagnostic process. Getting the right imaging study to the right patient at the right time is part of coordinated care.

What Touchstone Imaging Offers

Touchstone Imaging provides high-quality diagnostic imaging across its Colorado network:

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

Touchstone Imaging operates 1.5T and 3T MRI systems. The higher-field 3T systems provide enhanced resolution for soft tissue detail, particularly valuable for evaluating nerve root compression, labral tears, and small disc herniations. When your managing physician needs the highest-resolution soft tissue imaging, field strength matters.

Post-accident MRI indications include suspected disc herniation, nerve root compression, ligament tears, muscle tears, and spinal cord or nerve injury evaluation.

CT Scan

Computed tomography for detailed bone imaging and cross-sectional anatomy. CT at Touchstone is used for complex fracture evaluation, spinal stenosis characterization, and pre-procedure planning for interventional pain management. CT-myelography (CT performed after contrast injection into the spinal canal) can identify disc pathology and nerve compression when MRI is contraindicated.

X-Ray

Standard radiographs for initial structural assessment. Cervical spine X-ray series (AP, lateral, oblique views) and dynamic flexion-extension studies assess bone alignment, disc space height, and ligamentous stability. X-ray is typically the first imaging ordered and often precedes advanced imaging.

Ultrasound

Diagnostic ultrasound for musculoskeletal evaluation. Dynamic ultrasound imaging (moving a joint through its range while imaging) provides information that static MRI cannot, including real-time tendon behavior, rotator cuff tears under load, and muscle herniation patterns.

Locations

Touchstone Imaging operates nine Colorado locations:

Coverage across the north, south, east, and west metro ensures most patients are within 15-20 minutes of a Touchstone location from any of CCC's five clinic areas.

When CCC Refers to Touchstone

CCC maintains both Health Images and Touchstone Imaging as network partners because patient location, imaging type, and scheduling availability vary. Your physician or care coordinator determines the most appropriate partner for your specific referral based on:

  • Proximity to your home or workplace: If Touchstone's closest location is significantly more convenient than Health Images', the referral goes to Touchstone.
  • Availability for urgent imaging: When a study is clinically time-sensitive, the partner with the earliest available appointment receives the referral.
  • Specific imaging capabilities: Touchstone's 3T MRI capability may be specified when higher-resolution soft tissue imaging is clinically indicated.
  • Colorado Springs patients: For patients at CCC's Colorado Springs clinic, Touchstone Imaging's Colorado Springs location offers an alternative to Health Images' Colorado Springs centers, based on availability.

How Results Return to Your Care Team

The referral pathway is the same regardless of which imaging partner you visit:

The radiologist reads your study and produces a formal written report. That report goes directly to your CCC managing physician, not through an intermediary, not mailed weeks later. Your physician receives the results, reviews the radiologist's findings against your clinical presentation, and contacts you to discuss the implications for your treatment plan.

This is coordinated imaging. You're not waiting to call for results. Your care team is expecting them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does CCC use two imaging networks?
Health Images and Touchstone Imaging serve different geographic areas and may have different scheduling availability at any given time. Using both networks means your imaging referral goes to whichever partner serves your location best, rather than requiring you to travel to a less convenient location because of a single-partner arrangement.
Can I request a specific imaging location?
Yes. When your managing physician determines that imaging is indicated, your care coordinator can discuss which location options are available through both network partners and work with your schedule and location preferences.
What if I need imaging at night or on weekends?
Some Touchstone and Health Images locations offer extended hours and weekend availability. Your care coordinator can identify the options with the scheduling flexibility you need when urgent or time-sensitive imaging is ordered.
Will I be billed separately by Touchstone Imaging?
Imaging ordered through CCC as part of your accident claim is coordinated under your MedPay, PIP, or lien arrangement. Your case manager coordinates coverage before your appointment, so you should not receive an unexpected bill from Touchstone for covered studies.
